What should I expect in the first appointment with the Osteopath?

A full medical history is taken and a comprehensive assessment is made (including physical examination). You will be asked to perform a series of movements in order to identify any postural imbalances, points of excess strain or weakness and/or a specific injury. Alongside the physical examination, lifestyle factors such as nutrition, work and leisure activities will be taken into account, so that a robust diagnosis can be reached. At this point a treatment plan will be discussed with the patient. Treatment is incorporated into the first consultation, so that patients begin to manage their condition right away.

What do I wear?

For the physical examination you will be asked to undress to your underwear, so please do make sure you wear suitable underwear which you feel comfortable in. If you prefer not to undress, the assessment can still be undertaken but may be less accurate and therefore, less effective.
